You Have Value, Remember That!!

Updated: Mar 4, 2022

Value is something that one deems vital or worthy. It is also one's knowledge, principles, and something beneficial to yourself or another.

"Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows."

- Luke 12:6-7

"We're all human, aren't we? Every human life is worth the same, and worth saving."

- J.K. Rowling

"Surround yourself with the dreamers and the doers, the believers and thinkers, but most of all, surround yourself with those who see the greatness within you, even when you don't see it yourself."

- Edmund Lee

I was in a Clubhouse room, and someone asked a question. The person started the question like this, "I don't have a title, am just a "regular individual," how can I add value to the room"? The moderator responds, "You participate in the room, that's value, but those that come in and don't say anything, don't bring value." I said to myself, "WOW"! Understand this, please; whatever room, building, car, or wherever you go; you take the value with you because you are valuable, and you have value. Whether you ever speak or not, you carry value. Your life holds value, and don't you ever forget that!

The statement of the individual caused me to have a righteous indignation because I, once upon a time, felt as if I had no value or was unworthy enough to be loved and accepted. After all the things I had done in my life, why would anyone want me?! But God formed us, He knows us, He values us, and we are valuable. Just because someone else thinks otherwise, don't receive it. Look at it this way, if that individual opened their room and no one ever entered, whether they spoke or sat to listen if no one ever visited, what value would that room have? There is value in the listing and learning! the Bible tells us, “To be slow to speak, but quick to listen." - James 1:19

Sparrows have lesser value out of many other birds, but even the Father is concerned with that which is less than in another's eyes. He numbered the hairs on our very heads, He knows every freckle, pimple, or zit that appears, He knows our strengths and our weaknesses, and yet we still hold value. He is not like humans because we are all created by and loved by Him. If we had no value, there wasn't a need to send His Son, Jesus Christ. The Bible says, "That God so loved the world that He gave His ONLY BEGOTTEN SON, so that you and I could have life and that we could have it more abundantly." - John 3:16 I don't believe anyone would give their "only" for something that had no value at all.

Reflect: Have anyone ever said anything to you that made you feel as if you held no value? What was your reaction, and how did it make you feel? Did you take it to heart? If so, why, and if not, why? Be encourage and know that you have and are valued more than you could ever imagine, think, or dream about. God loves you so much, He cares for you, and He wants nothing but the best for you, His child.

I like that your essay has a clear structure. It makes us reflect on the thoughts and feelings we had when a person doubted our value. It’s a matter of perspective, right? I like your quotes, specially this one, by Edmund Lee: " _Surround yourself with the dreamers and the doers, the believers and thinkers, but most of all, surround yourself with those who see the greatness within you, even when you don't see it yourself_ " I like how you started sharing with us a story about a meeting at a Clubhouse and the thoughts you had, better yet, the emotions and reactions you had during a flashback when you too felt unworthy to be loved. It’s surprisin…
